House. C16 and C17. Timber-framed, weatherboarded (C20) with
half hipped peg-tiled roof. 2 storeys. Irregular C20 wooden
casement windows with small panes. Central stack (behind roof
apex) C20 gabled porch with glazed door. Rectangular plan but
containing 2 bayed cross-wing at W. Sooting reveals that it
once abutted onto an open hall to its E side and this was
replaced in the C17 by the present block consisting of two
bays each with exposed ceiling joists flanking a central
chimney bay which contains the stack. INTERIOR: frame has
cambered tie-beams and clasped side purlin and queen post
roof. Upper chamber has fireplace with depressed 4 centred
arch. Much reuse of timber e.g. original moulded bressumer of
cross-wing reversed.
