Terrace of 14 houses standing above the main road. c1810-35.
Stucco with slate-hung returns to Nos 1 and 14. Four central
houses have 2 breaks forward and 2 houses at each end project
slightly. 3 storeys and attic storeys or attic dormers
(originally all probably with dormers). 2 windows each.
Porches of fluted columns supporting triglyph frieze with
cornice; projecting end houses and central houses have paired
porches. Panelled doors under rectangular overlights to Nos
1-5 (overlight with margin glazing), 6, 7 and 8 (fanlight),
9-13 (overlight with margin glazing), 14. Internal fanlights
and moulded surrounds probably to all houses but seen at Nos
2, 4, 5, 9-12 (elliptical) and 14 (overlight). All houses with
continuous 1st floor cast-iron balconies of different designs
and dates; Nos 2, 3, 5, 6 and 14 of good quality. No.1
originally had a good trellis canopy. Most retain original
slightly recessed hornless sashes to upper floors; No.3 with
1st floor casements, No.6 with 1st floor casements and C20
glazing to 2nd floor. Parapets. INTERIOR not inspected. This
terrace is a particularly prominent feature of the hillside
viewed from the harbour.
