House. c1910. Architect unknown but probably R.C. Cockrill.
Rendered and colourwashed brick. Machine tile roofs. One
storey and dormer attic. Symmetrical composition based on 3
gables in line. The ground floor is entered through a central
half-glazed door with painted glass. One 3-light mullioned
window immediately right and left which light inglenooks by
the stack on the interior. Either side again are bay windows
fitted with 5-light cross casements. These rise to support an
overhanging upper floor, which also rests on 2 square section
timber piers in front of the doorway. The upper floor has 3
gables, each with a 4-light mullioned window and vertical
exposed studwork. Between the studs is brick nogging. The 2
principal studs are placed diagonally to create a deeply
syncopated rhythm. Central ridge stack. East and west returns
are dominated by the long roof slopes to these sides, each
with a pair of flat-topped dormers clasping a stack. The rear
is also has 3 gables, treated more plainly. Mullioned windows
as before. INTERIOR. Austere. Short entrance passage leads to
central top-lit staircase hall rising through both storeys.
Stick baluster staircase with square newels. Principal
ground-floor rooms have panelled inglenooks.
