GV II

Small villa including garden walls and stable block. Circa
1820, incorporating a possibly earlier cottage; stable block
late C19. Roughcast cob; slate roof, hipped at ends; 2 rear
stacks. Stable block brick.
Plan: single depth, 2 rooms wide, with a central entrance. The
ground slopes sharply away to the right (east) and a second
block to the right is lower down and faces into a service
yard. A front right wing with a monopitch roof at right angles
to the main block provides extra accommodation over a service
room (possibly an old dairy) which faces into the service
yard. The yard is completed by a Victorian stable block,
parallel to the wing.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-bay front with regular
fenestration. 4-panel front door to left of centre, the top
panels glazed with geometric glazing bars, doorcase with
panelled reveals. 2 French windows to the left, one to the
right: 2-leaf with small panes, the top panes with Gothick
arched glazing bars to the heads. First floor window left and
2 right hand windows are 12-pane sashes with Gothick arched
panes at the top. 6-pane casement above the front door with
similar Gothick treatment to the panes. The inner return of
the wing is stuccoed with deep eaves with a boarded soffit and
paired eaves brackets. 4-bay verandah on cast iron columns
with a lead tent roof and a 5th similar bay on the south end
return. The service yard has pitched stone paving. Tall,
rendered garden walls to the garden to the south has tiled
coping. Interior: Original features include panelled doors and
shutters.
