NORTH NIBLEY STANCOMBE PARK

Former lodge, now small detached house. c1860 for Rev. David
Edwards. Coursed and squared marlstone; brick chimney bases with
tall limestone stacks; plain tile roof. Oriental Tudor style;
picturesque. Single-storey. Range has 2 projecting wings on
north west side. South west end continuous with marlstone
boundary wall: single small canted timber oriel with hipped roof
and moulded stone underside. Tall timber spike finial at end of
ridge; heavily sprocketed eaves giving oriental flavour; exposed
rafter ends. Small canted bay at end of each wing with hipped
roofs, one wing retaining timber spike finial. Three ridge-
mounted chimneys have brick dentil course to bases and tall
lozenge or spiral-patterned Tudor style chimney shafts with
brattished tops, some now replaced by plain pots. Blank rear wall
built into bank containing ice house (q.v.). Formerly one of 2
lodges on drives to Stancombe Park in Stinchcombe C P.
