GV II -
Three cottages, now 2. C18, altered and part raised later. Dressed
limestone with pantile roof and brick stacks. 2-storey, 3-bay fronts to
both houses; end right bay, part of Ivy Dene, raised. Ryedale: plank door
with small-pane tripartite sash to left and 2-light, large-pane horizontal-
sliding sash to right. First-floor windows correspond to those on ground
floor. Windows on left have painted stone sills. Door and ground-floor
left window have painted tooled lintels; remaining lintels are painted
timber. Right-of-centre stack. Ivy Dene: part-glazed, 4-panel door,with
plain lintel, to right of 3-light, large-pane horizontal-sliding sash with
painted timber lintel; similar window above. In the taller end a painted
lintel survives from the blocked doorway of the third cottage. The ground
and first-floor windows are 6-pane sashes with painted stone sills and
painted lintels. End stacks. Both cottages were associated with the
Wrelton Iron Foundry, run from Foundry Farmhouse (qv) in the second half of
the C19. Included for group value.
