HOLCOMBE BURNELL
SX 89 SE

4/73 Cummery Cottage

- II

House. Late C17 or earlier origins, interior largely reconstructed after a fire in
the 1970s. Whitewashed rendered cob, right end wall rebuilt in concrete block,
thatched roof hipped at ends, lateral stack heating hall, right end stack heating
lower end.
Probably a 3 room and passage plan house, the hall heated from the rear lateral stack
with an adjacent projecting stair turret. The partition between the inner room and
the hall has been removed.
2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front with regular fenestration of 2-light casement
windows with small panes. C20 thatched porch on posts with front door into passage
centre right.
Interior 1 chamfered cross beam survives in the lower end room, otherwise the
interior of the house is modern.
A picturesque exterior visible from the roadside.
