4/137 Group of five tomb chests
between approximately one
and nine metres north-
east of chancel of
Church of St Eadburgha
GV II
Tomb chests. Circa 1700 and early C19. Limestone. Each has a moulded flat
top and panelled sides. The south-western tomb has worn inscriptions which
include the date "1716" on one end. The northern tomb has panels separated
by pilasters with crude Ionic volutes and includes the date "1720"(?). Between
these tombs are three close together. The south-western one of these includes
an inscription to Thomas Austin, died 1684. The north-eastern one includes
the date "1694". The north-west one has two arched panels at the west end
and includes the date "1820".
