GV II

House, now 3 flats. Dated 1825. Rough cast render with ashlar
plinth and dressings; roof not visible, stone parapet copings
and brick chimney. 2 storeys; 3-window range, and narrow
set-back bay linking to No.22 (qv). Step up to central
panelled door and overlight to No.18 recessed in plain stone
surround with cornice and blocking course. All windows have
sashes with fine glazing bars. Projecting stone lintels to
long sashes flanking door and to three on first floor, the
outer ones with lower sills. 3 blind panels in roof parapet,
the central with inscription: EDIFICATA JACOBO EWBANK/ AD
MDCCCXXV. Roof not visible. Left end chimney with stone
coping. Left return has door to No.20 in centre of blank wall;
right return has door to No.18a at rear, and window above.
Set-back right link to No.22 has central sash on each floor,
the upper on sill band. On ground floor a lancet niche at
right, 2 quatrefoil panels above, and above them a central
obscured inscription apparently: `MEMOR ESTO BREVIS AEVI' on
painted stone tablet. On the first floor single cross arrow
slits either side of sash.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
No.20 was listed on 29.9.56.
