1353-0/4/195 The Cottage

GV II

Cottage. C17 extended in C18 and C20. Built of Isle of Wight
stone rubble with thatched roof and end brick chimneystacks.
Original portion of 1 1/2 storeys, 2 bays. Eyebrow dormers.
Windows are C20 triple casements. Central modern projecting
porch with gable, kneelers and stone finial. Cambered
doorcase. To west is a 1 storey stone rubble addition with
hipped thatched roof and 3 C20 casements, said to have been
stabling. Addition to east of 1 storey with 2 C20 triple
casements. Interior has early C17 chamfered spine beam with
heart and diamond stop and open fireplace. On right hand side
is late C18 stone fireplace with wooden bressumer. Rushlight
marks. Bought in ceramic altarpiece, possible C17 Portuguese.
Porch has reused early C17 oak panelling and some linenfold
panelling in exotic wood.
