Whitbatch Farmhouse

House. C17 with early C19 and late C19 additions. Timber-frame
and brick; coursed rubble; brick; plain tile roof with old
tiles to central unit; 2 brick ridge stacks and 2 end stacks.
T-shaped plan. Central unit box-framed with brick on edge
infill. 2-storeys; 2-window range: 2-light casements, in
moulded cases; ground floor has one 3-light and one 2-light
casement with simple timber hoods. All windows have metal
lattice glazing. To left, later C19 range has 3-light window
under segmental arch, under small gable; to right, 2-light
casement, over plank door under segmental arch, protected by
rustic porch with chamfered timber-frame on brick plinth; to
left, 4-light casement under segmental arch. 2-storey brick
wing to rear. Cross-wing to north: 2-storeys and cellar; gable
has 3-light window over 3-light cross-window, under stone
lintels; plain barge-boards with spike-finial; north front has
central 2-light window flanked by two 3-light windows under
stone lintels; central entrance: half-glazed panelled door in
moulded architrave, under stone lintel, sheltered by rustic
porch with chamfered timber-framing on brick and stone plinth;
spike-finial; flanked by two 3-light cross-windows under stone
lintels.
