Late C18 cottage row, may be an adaptation of an earlier farmhouse. Irregularly
coursed gritstone. Nos 42 and 44, as pair, are taller with steep pitched stone
slate roof, saddlestones and prominent kneelers. No 40 has 2 light square
mullion windows in squared surrounds to both floors and single-storey one window
wing. Nos 42 and 44 have 3 light square mullion windows and small single light
over doorways. Plain squared jambs to doors with common lintel.
