Public house, formerly coaching inn. C17 with circa early C19 remodelling and with
C17 wing and C19 cottage with wing to left and C19 cottage to right. Slatestone
rubble with asbestos slate gable ended roofs with various eaves levels and gable and
lateral stacks. Originally 2 room through passage plan now with wings enclosing
rear courtyard. 2 storeys. Mid C19 part to left has wide ground floor carriageway
to alley, central 4 panel door with overlight and window to right. Window over this
and over carriageway C19. Wooden sashes with marginal glazing. All openings have
cambered brick arches with projecting granite keystones. 3 windows pub part has
central doorway with granite pillared porch with 6 light wooden bay window over.
Flanking ground floor windows are C20 plastic tilt opening ones. 4 paned wooden
sashes over, all with C20 false shutters. Taller slightly projecting 2 window front
cottage to right. Ground floor window left is 16 pane hornless wooden sash.
Similar window over and 4 pane sash over doors to right. Cambered brick arches over
windows and wooden lintel over doors. Rear wing has external lateral chimney breast
and small paned wooden sash with some old bullseye panes. Interior of main part has
chamfered granite fireplace lintel to upper end room plus beamed ceilings and bread
oven recess to rear wing. First floor and roofs not inspected.
