1353-0/8/252 Old Cross in the Churchyard at John
the Baptist Church

GV II

Remains of mediaeval churchyard cross. C15. 4 stone steps with
stone Celtic cross of 1865 added above. Contracts were signed
and declarations were made on the cross steps. In the
Registers of 1718 the Rector is recorded as making "a
declaration at the cross before the Church where the cows are
milked". A fish market is said to have been held there at a
time when the land was the village green not a burial ground.
