Tan Pit Cottages

GV II

Row of 8 small cottages set back from road, now 6 dwellings.
Probably early to mid C18, apparently in different builds;
altered, and with additions to both ends. Coursed squared
sandstone, composition tile roof. Double-depth plan, each
cottage single-fronted (Nos 67 & 69, and Nos 71 & 73 now
integrated as single dwellings). Two low storeys, one window
each; plain doorways to the left, altered and porches added to
Nos 59, 63, 65, 67 and 73; mostly 3-light casement windows on
both floors, except those at Nos 63 & 67 have 2 lights, all
with flush sills and lintels and mostly with altered glazing.
Individual ridge chimneys. Recent one-bay additions at both
ends in matching style. INTERIOR: No.67/69 has 2 large
kingpost roof trusses, hand shaped and pegged, with angle
struts; otherwise, not inspected.
