Farmhouse. Probably late C16 with later additions and alterations. Roughly
coursed slate-stone with granite quoins, roughcast to front and mainly rendered
to rear; slate and asbestos sheet roof, formerly thatched to right and to
rear. Basic L-plan with range to rear on left: lower (southern end of main
range probably originally agricultural. One storey and attic. Main range
has full-height lean-to to projection to left with 3-light casement on ground
floor and another to far left probably housing staircase. Similar casement
on each floor to space between and 3-light casement to right of right projection
on ground floor. Gabled eaves dormer directly above and narrower gabled
eaves dormer to right at junction with former agricultural part. C20 half-
glazed door between. Former agricultural part has lean-to attached with
3-door pigsties projecting at right-angles. Main range has prominent integral
end stack with chamfered dripstones to left and prominent integral lateral
stack with granite blocks and brown brick top in angle with rear range.
This has integral end stack with brick top and catslide outshut to north
side. Lean-to in angle with main range.
Interior: Room to left of cross-passage has late C16 painted rectangular
oak panelling with larger panels to cross-wall dividing it from left room.
4-panel door leads to passage, 2-panel door to right of fireplace leads to
winder staircase; plank door to back kitchen. Left room has larger late
C17 panelling. Kitchen has roughly carved joists, 2 curiously dividing into
Y-shape at one end. Lower end (to right of passage) is only reached from
outside and has large fireplace with voussoirs to segmental arch (stack itself
demolished above ridge); chamfered spine beams. Roof structure of tower
end is C20 and roof timbers of house-part said to have been totally replaced
in 1977.
