Outbuilding about 25 metres north-west of Sock Dennis Farmhouse

19.4.61

GV II

Outbuilding used as store, said to be former chapel. C16 and C18. Lias stone cut and squared; Welsh slate roof,
replacing thatch, between stepped coped gables. 'L' plan. North gable has three 2-light windows, 2 below, one above,
detailed to match the C18 mullioned windows of Sock Dennis Farmhouse (q.v); to west a moulded cambered arched doorway
apparently of early-C16; plain east and west sides; south gable has two 4-centre- arched doorways, not in alignment,
with plain chamfers: inside a later form of queen-post roof truss, walls have brick linings. Attached to the north-
west corner a low byre and stable, 4 bays, having brick columns with Ham stone caps, hipped Welsh slate roof, over
stone slate base courses, sawn stone hips and ridge. The presence of this building suggests that the buildings on this
site may incorporate fragments from the medieval settlement.
