Terraced town houses. c.1810-11 (with slight mid C.19 alteration to
No. 22), by J.T. Parkinson as part of his Montagu-Bryanston Square
development for the Portman Estate. Stock brick with channelled stucco
ground floors, concealed slate roof. No. 20 of 4 storeys, Nos. 21-22 of 5
storeys, on basements. 3-window wide fronts. Semicircular arched doorways
to left with panelled doors and inset Greek Doric columns under entablature
doorheads, Nos. 20 and 21 retaining patterned fanlights. 2-window
segmental bows to ground floors, that of No. 21 continued in stucco, with 3
sash lights, through 1st and 2nd floors, finished off with cornice and
blocking course; No. 22 has mid C.19 stucco canted bay on 1st floor above
ground floor bow; otherwise recessed sashes, most with glazing bars, under
flat gauged arches. Plat band finishing off ground floor stuccowork.
No. 20 has stone coped parapet and Nos. 21-22 have crowning stucco cornice
and blocking course. Continuous, cast iron, lattice patterned balconies to
1st floors. Cast iron area railings with acorn finials.
