DRAPERS FIELDS

Bridge number 1, Coventry Canal

Road bridge. 1769 with C19 repair. Red brick with blue brick dressings. Single segmental arch on inclined side walls. Oval cast iron plaque above on each side inscribed with the number '1'. The side walls curve out on either side and continue to north west as a buttressed retaining wall. Continuous parapet walls with chamfered copings. The bridge crosses the Coventry Canal Navigation begun in 1768 under James Brindley.
