House, formerly public house, C15 with C16 and later alterations. 1 1/2
storeys and attics. Originally a 3-cell open hall-house. Timber-framed, now
mainly encased in colour - washed red brick, but with areas of render. Cedar-
shingled roof, half-hipped at right-hand end, with axial chimney of red brick;
mono-pitched casement dormer. Various C19 and C20 windows. C20 boarded and
battened entrance door. 2-bay formerly-open hall with cambered and chamfered
arch-braced tie-beam and coupled-rafter roof, soot-blackened; the dais wall
with large rising braces and evidence for a fixed bench; a cross-passage
doorway with 4-centred arched head and top rail of screen or spere. The
service end cell has gone. 1st floor inserted into hall and fireplace built
backing onto cross-passage mid C16. 1 1/2 storey extension added c.1980 to
left hand end.
