Grotto. Probably early C18. Earth-covered brick and flint. Set in mound, round archway
gives access to domed grotto inside which are arched, coved, statue niches. Celia
Fiennes described a grotto at Durdans c. 1712 "an arch entirely dark, but at the
entrance it is so large as 6 arched seates, and between carv'd stone very fine of
all sorts of flowers figures fruites, the pillars or peers pretty broad" (p 235).
