House. Late C18. Random whinstone rubble with sandstone dressings, Scottish
slate roof. 2 storeys plus attics, 5 bays.
3 steps up to central C20 door with overlight in raised surround. On ground
floor 9-pane sashes in raised surrounds, on 1st floor 12-pane sashes also in
raised surrounds. Steeply-pitched roof with kneelers and splayed coping. 2
early-C20 dormers. Large, corniced brick end stacks.
Extensive irregular additions to rear. Round-headed stair window with
intersecting glazing bars and 2 early C19 tripartite windows.
Interior: spacious, 3-storey, open-well stair with stick balusters and turned
newels. Several early C19 fireplaces with cushion-moulded surrounds and paterae;
cast-iron Victorian grates. 6-panel doors and shutters. Panelling in entrance
hall and bar said to be from the Olympic, sister ship to the Titanic.
