Cottage. Late C17 with C20 additions. Timber framed with red brick nogging;
plain tile roof. End lobby-entry house of 2 framed bays. One storey and
attic. Integral brick end stack to left; two C20 gabled dormers with 2-light
wooden casements. Framing: square panels, 3 from sole-plate to wall-plate.
2-window front, wooden-framed 2-light metal casements; boarded door in
left-hand gable end. Exposed collar and tie-beam trusses with queen struts
and V-struts. C20 one-storey lean-to addition to left; another entrance
at rear. Interior: central upper cruck roof truss; ground-floor timber
framed partition; ground-floor left-hand room has chamfered beam with ogee
stops, wide joists and large open fireplace; C17 newel staircase at rear
of stack. Blocked doorway at south end of east wall, entrance now in south
wall. E. Mercer, English Vernacular Houses, H.M.S.O. (1979), p.197 and plates
