Water Tower. Late C19. Red brick with stone aprons to windows and plat band.
Octagonal, approximately 120 feet high. Massive plinth with corbelled offset to
top shaft of tower battering inwards above. Massive multi-eaves bands to
projecting top stage with brick dentils and string course to base of pierced
parapet. Five rectangular openings to each face except one in parapet stage.
Three further openings over single central opening in most faces of the tower
shaft. Main body of the tower has two windows with stone lintels and aprons to
upper stage of most faces. Alternate faces have two round arched windows with
gauged brick heads at one and two-thirds height, alternating with facing. Single
storey central window under, in plinth, on east and west faces. Double doors to
north with lambs-tongue stops to splayed jambs. Massive circular stair turret
to east face on enormous label bracket with spherical stop.
