Bittleford Farmhouse, including
23.8.55 shippon at left-hand end

GV II

Farmhouse, possibly a former longhouse. Probably C17 or earlier; porch added 1705.
Shippon end rebuilt late C19 or early C20. Granite rubble; house-part covered with
roughcast. House covered with asbestos slates, shippon with real slates. 2 large
chimneystacks on ridge covered with roughcast; left-hand stack (probably backing on
to through-passage) with stone weatherings. Plan seems to have 4 domestic rooms to
right of through-passage. 2 storeys. 4-window front; all windows have C20 plastic
casements, except for C19 wood casement in upper storey of porch. Ground storey of
porch has moulded, round-arched granite doorway with 1705 RT carved in the
spandrels. Shippon to left is L-shaped; openings have segmental arches with well-
cut voussoirs. Loft door with gabled roof rising above eaves-line.
