House. 1790s. Built by Samuel Oldknow as mill apprentices
housing and as his principal farm. Dressed stone with
graduated stone slate and slate roofs. 3 x 3 bays with 3
storeys and a 2 storey canted wing at the rear. Projecting
plinth and continuous first and second floor sill bands.
Flat canopy on columns over central 6-panel door with
sidepanels and semi-elliptical radial fanlight. 2 windows to
ground floor and 3 to first all with 16-pane sashes and
square-cut surrounds. 3 similar to second floor but of 9
panes. Hipped double-ridge roof with 4 large chimney stacks.
Sides have 2 windows to each floor at left and 3 at right.
2 x 3 bay rear wing, now a separate house has lunettes to
the angled walls and a porch on either side.
