Includes: Nos.1 AND 3 YORKE STREET.
Shop with dwelling and attached town house, now shop and
offices. c1850-60; altered. Watershot coursed dressed
sandstone, hipped slate roof. Narrow rectangular plan on
corner site, the former dwellings single-depth.
3 storeys over cellar/basement, 2 windows to Manchester Road
and 5 windows to Yorke Street; with rusticated quoins,
sillbands to both upper floors, a plain frieze and moulded
gutter cornice all carried round. The shop (No.41) has a
splayed corner doorway (with altered door), and a large square
shop window in each facade, both with altered glazing and a
pilastered surround including a cornice and roller blind
apparatus. The main domestic doorway (to the left of the Yorke
Street window) has a wide moulded architrave in a panelled
pilastered surround including ornamental consoles and a
moulded cornice, and 2 steps up to a recessed glazed and
panelled door with plain overlight. Left of this are 3
basement windows and 3 ground floor windows sashed without
glazing bars, and between the 2nd and 3rd of these a recessed
doorway with plain surround. Both facades have tall 12-pane
unhorned sashed windows at 1st floor and shorter windows at
2nd floor, mostly sashed without glazing bars but the 2nd and
3rd to Yorke Street 9-paned. 3 large ridge chimneys, one
corniced and the others altered.
