698-1/8/783 (East side)
08/01/88 Vicarage of Church of St Michael and
All Angels

GV II

Rectory, attached to south side of church. 1937, probably by
N.F.Cachemaille-Day. Red brick in header bond with concrete
dressings and concrete slab roofs. Linear plan in 2 parts, the
first being a set-back link to the church. Modern style, with
flat roofs on 2 levels. Two unequal storeys (ground floor
lower), a 3-window symmetrical main range and a lower 5-window
link to the left, plus a single-storey garage to the right,
visually integrated by a continuous plat-band over the
ground-floor openings. The main range has a recessed doorway
in the centre flanked by shallow curved 3-light windows, and a
small 2-light window at each corner, all these windows with
run-out sills; and at 1st floor 3 small widely-spaced 2-light
windows with run-out sills and lintels, and a high plain
parapet. The linking range to the left has a square
flat-roofed porch in the angle with the church, a plain
doorway to the right, 3 small windows at ground floor and 5
above (like those in the main range), and projected roof-slab
eaves. Attached at the south end of the main range is a
single-storey garage, part of the original design. East
(garden) front (as reported 08.01.88) stepped forward from
left to right in 4 bays, with 3, 4, 5 and 6-light windows,
some curved at the corner. Interior not inspected. Forms group
with Church of St Michael and All Angels.
