Remains (south wall) of c.1300 manor house of de Brus and Clifford families.
Coursed limestone rubble with dressed limestone dressings and quoins.
Approximately 4m. high. Left to right: wide, chamfered, segmental doorway
with arch renewed in brick on north side and relieving arch above; first-floor
lancet with decayed trefoil head; c.1600 rectangular first-floor window
opening, having segmental head on north side. 2 floor-joist corbels to north
face. Chamfered plinth. Lower section of wall adjoining, to left, being the
remains of slightly later extension, containing a bricked-up doorway and window
opening. Scheduled Ancient Monument No. 93. (D. Austin, "Archaeologia
