Description

FLOWTON ELMSETT ROAD
TM 04 NE
6/114 Valley Farmhouse
-
- II
Farmhouse. Late C16 and C17 with rear extension of C1800. 2 storeys and 1
storey with attics. Timber-framed and plastered; the C16 section is jet tied
along the front wall at 1st floor level, on 6 slender chamfered brackets.
Plaintiled roof with axial C17 chimney of red brick. Various mid C19 small-
pane sashes and casements, and one of C20. C19 boarded entrance door with
oblong fanlight. The C16 block is of 2 cells, each cell in 2 bays; the upper
storey had originally a single room of 4 bays. Good unmoulded framing and
close studwork. This block was probably added to a mediaeval house on its
right which was demolished and rebuilt in C17 on the same site; the latter has
many reused components of probably C15 origin.
