SU 17 NW BROAD HINTON SUMMERS LANE
2/29 Broad Hinton House
II
House, formerly vicarage house. 1867 front block by W.E.
Baverstock in regency style, to C18 building. Painted ashlar,
slate roof. Two storeys, 3 x 2 bays. Later C19 portico, glazed
in, with entablature and flat roof. Diocletian window above to
first floor. Twelve paned sashes to side bays, the ground floor
having Chinese metal canopies with pendents to the ribs. Very
wide boxed eaves across front and on south side. Roof hipped with
brick stacks. Interior has panelled doors and shutters, modest
plaster cornices, and black and white marble fireplaces. Stair
hall has elegant stair balustrade of iron with inlaid handrail.
Chamfered and stopped cross beams to rear rooms. Rear wing
demolished c1977.
