ST 96 NE CALNE WITHOUT MILE ELM (A3102)

5/97 Pillars Lodge

Bowood estate lodge, c1840, squared ironstone with stone slate
eaves roof, barge boards and finials. Paired octagonal stacks to
rear. Single storey and attic, picturesque Tudor style with
leaded stone mullion windows and hoodmoulds. South front has
shouldered gabled eaves dormer with 2-light window, ground floor
single light and 3-light with ornate stops to hoodmoulds flanking
projecting gabled barge boarded porch with Tudor-arched entry and
hoodmould. Similar inner door. East end, to road, has
exceptionally ornate barge boards, first floor 2-light and ground
floor 4-light window. West end wall has 2-light to each floor.
Hoodmould stops are similar to those on Old Rectory, Calstone
Wellington, rebuilt c1842.
