CITY SQUARE
Four lamp posts: 'Even'

(Formerly Listed as:
CITY SQUARE
Eight lamp standards)

GV
II

Four statues supporting lamps. 1903. By Alfred Drury. Polished
granite plinth, bronze life-size figures on square bases with
the lettering: 'EVEN/ THE GIFT OF T. WALTER HARDING 1903';
'ALF. DRURY ARA Sc'; and 'J.W.SINGER & SONS FOUNDERS'. Nude
female figures with drapery and left arm raised to support a
torch (not original).
Part of the lighting scheme for the City Square designed by
William Bakewell for T Walter Harding, 1903. The figures,
representing 'Even', originally stood on the balustrade and
flanked the entrances to the square, holding tall lamps with
glass ball shades. Matches the group, 'Morn' (qv).
