05/10/94 Armley Prison: revetment wall on
east side of Gloucester Terrace

GV II*

Revetment wall. c1847. By William Perkin and Elisha Backhouse.
Coursed rock-faced gritstone, ashlar coping. Overall length
approx 150m, present height 3-4m but originally higher as road
level has been raised. Octagonal bollards with large moulded
flat capstones, crenellated parapet, sloping buttresses,
blocked chamfered archway to right of centre. Shown on a
drawing in the margin of Rapkin's Map of Leeds, 1850.
