Terrace of five houses, now mostly flats. Mid C19. Painted
stucco, contiuous slate roof with moulded stacks to ends and
party walls.
PLAN: double-depth plans with rear additions.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attics; symmetrical 11 window range
to the terrace, central 3 houses are 3-window range, terminal
houses are one-window range to the front.
Originally 6 forward-facing gables had timber finials and
pendants and windows had label moulds, now only Nos 25 and 26
(to the left) retain them. Nos 25, 27 and 29 (ends and centre)
have large stepped-forward gables, Nos 26 and 28 have smaller
gables in stepped-forward entrance ranges.
Mostly 2-light windows to the attics, 2 and 3-lights to the
first and ground floors with timber mullions and transoms.
The end houses have entrances in the returns. No.27 to the
centre has a substantial c1860 gabled porch with chamfered
cross-bracing and fretted mouchettes to a set-back entrance
range and a similar front gate.
INTERIOR: No.27 has panelled shutters, some 4-panel doors and
a moulded cornice. No.28 is now a dental surgery.
Part of the Courtenay Park development, laid out in 1854.
