Description

SX 79 NE CREDITON HAMLETS WOODLAND HEAD

6/144 Grantham Cottage, Cree
Cottage and Bell Cottage

GV II

3 cottages. Probably mid C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stacks
topped with brick; thatched roof, hipped each end. Row of 3 adjoining 2-room
cottages each with its own axial stack to right. 2 storeys. Overall 9-window
front of various C20 steel and wooden casements. Grantham Cottage (left) has door
in single storey rubble walled porch on end wall; Cree Cottage (centre) has door
to right; and Bell Cottage (right) has door right of centre with C20 pantile-
roofed porch. Although internal arrangement has been altered by C20 modernisations
some original plain carpentry remains. If single bay at right end is secondary
each cottage would have a 2-window front and a more symmetrical appearance, the
centre cottage (Cree) being slightly smaller than those each side. Included for
group value.
