1/171 Lych-gate south of Church of
St Hieritha

GV II

Lychgate. 1881. Ashlar walls with timber framing above. Gableted tiled roof with
crested ridge tiles, timber cross to the centre of the ridge and pierced quatrefoils
to each gablet. Ashlar side walls with open traceried timberwork above, 6 lights
each side. 4-centred arches to front and rear with carved foliate spandrels that to
front with inscription 'Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving', that to rear 'Let thy
Servant Depart in Peace'. Timber gates with open-work panels below the headrail.
Small plaque set into left-hand wall with inscription to John Baring Short of
Hudscott d.1880.
