Description

SS 62 SW SATTERLEIGH AND
WARKLEIGH
3/174 Claytown Farmhouse
-

- GV

Farmhouse. C17, with possibly earlier origins; extended at left end in C19.
Rendered stone rubble and cob. Thatch roof to original range with gable end to
right end, slate roof to C19 extension at left end. Tall front lateral hall stack
with offsets and bread oven projection. Brick ridge stack and brick stack to left
gable end.
Plan. As interior not accessible at time of survey, a proper assessment of the plan
and development could not be made. The original core would appear to consist of the
hall to right at upper end with cross-passage containing staircase and lower end to
left; however, there is said to be a straight-joint to the left of the cross-
passage staircase, so it is possible the lower end was rebuilt. In the C19, an
additional range of 1-room plan was added at the left end.
2 storeys. 4-window range. Early C20 fenestration. Two 2-light casements. 6
panes per light to left and two 2-light casements 2 panes per light to right. 2
plank doors to ground floor each with a C20 window to left. No rear outshuts.
Interior not accessible.
