C16 or earlier timber framed house completely recased externally, and with considerable
inside alterations, in 1716 (date on water butt). House now L-shaped, north
wing having been burned down, and entrance shifted to East front of 2 storeys
and attic, 4 windows, blank left bay. Tiled roof, hipped at right, half hipped
at left. 2 hipped gabled dormers with C18 iron casements. Heavy moulded and
dentilled eaves cornice, running around left end. Red brick with diaper of
blue headers and 1st floor band. Gauged brick arches to near-flush sash windows
with glazing bars in moulded wood frames. 6-panel double door under heavy segmental
pedimented hood, with shell soffit, on large carved brackets. 2-storey 2-window
harmonious modern right extension. 1-storey left projection a former smoke
house. Against wall an ornamental rain water head with gargoyle spout to pipe
and lead butt below. Garden front of 5 windows, with 2-window right wing, in
similar style. Modern loggia and balcony at west end. Inside 2 complete rooms
of C18 panelling. Some re-used C16 panelling also.
At south end of house a stone mounting block.
