Description

WAPPING LANE E1
1.
4431
TQ 3480 22/5 "C and L Storage"
II GV

2.
C1840-50 one storey and basement warehouse on corner site with bowed corner. Stock
brick. Plain parapet with stone coping. Nine bay main elevation and 4 bay return
to south. Segmental arched windows to basement and darn storey with iron framed
glazing. Off centre hatch in nearly flush wood frame. Late C19 waggon entrance with
engineering brick trim to north end. Inside: deep 2 bay depth, ie 2 "aisles" of king
post timber trusses, wide span, the valley and central plates carried on a girder
supported by cast iron columns with cross section flanges. A good example of a
smaller warehouse dating from just after the first period of expansion. Part of one
of the few surviving groups of warehouses in Docklands, and helps to preserve the
enclosed character of this narrow street. Its bowed corner also gives it townscape
value.
