9/123 Church of St. Peter

GV II

Church. Rebuilt 1846. Coursed Bargate stone with ashlar dressings and slate roofs.
Nave and north aisle with chancel to east and gabled porch to south. Square, wood-
shingled bellcote to west with double louvred-light openings on north and south
faces. Pyramidal roof over the bellcote under ball and weathervane finial.
Buttressed west end with quatrefoil roundel over two lancets below, all with linked
hood moulds. One Decorated Style two-light window and one plate tracery window to
south side under hood mouldings. Gabled offset buttress between lancet fenestration
to chapel under hood mouldings with sill bands and string courses linking windows
and buttresses. Corbel band to eaves. Three-light, stepped lancet to east end with
human head stops to hood moulding. Trefoil entry to south porch with chamfered
surround to planked door.
Interior:- Chalk facing. Triple arcade to north on octagonal piers. Panelled
ceiling. C19 fittings. Octagonal stone font, white and coloured marble with deep
panels to octagonal bowl. Square stem with attached foliage capital shafts. A
copy of the font in Bosham Church, Sussex.
