Farmhouse with attached barn and cottage, subsequently station master's
house, now house and workshop. Barn late C17, house early to mid C18
enlarged in C19, cottage mid to later C18. Mostly coursed squared sandstone
with some quoins, roofs of slate and stone slate. Linear 3-unit 2-storey
farmhouse added at east end of 3-bay barn, right-hand front outshut of barn
replaced with one-unit 2-storey cottage; 2nd and 3rd units of farmhouse
raised to 3 storeys. From left (west) to right (east) as follows:-

Barn of large coursed rubble with quoins, stone slate roof, U-plan, 3 units
with front outshut to 1st unit, recessed porch to centre (later lean-to
addition to porch not included in the item), lintel of re-used timbers and
harr-hung batten-and-board double doors.

Cottage now embraced by barn (in place of 2nd outshut), of coursed squared
sandstone with stone slate roof,2 storeys, has doorway to left, one window on
each floor, both of 2-lights with flat-faced mullions and 12-pane sashes; and
chimney at right-hand gable.

House, partly overlapped by cottage, of matching masonry with large quoins at
ground and lst floors, C19 masonry at 2nd floor, with roof of stone slate
(1st bay) and Welsh slate (higher part); 1st bay of 2 low storeys has a
16-pane boxed sashed window at ground floor, a 3-light flat-faced mullion
window above , with sashed centre and 8 panes to each light; 2nd and 3rd
bays, 3-storeyed, with added top storey almost equal in height to the first
two storeys, has a blocked former doorway to each bay (first altered as
window, with horizontal sliding sash), a large modern window inserted between
these; 3 windows at 1st floor (1, 2 and 2 lights) and 2 matching 2-light
windows at 2nd floor; chimney at left gable. Side and rear of less interest
with various C19 additions to rear including 2-storey rear wing; a quoined
vertical joint to barn at junction with house; altered rear doorway to barn.
Attached at right-angles to rear of 1st bay of barn is a single-storey wing
which may have been a stable; but is of less interest.

Interior: barn has 2 king post roof trusses, one with curved principals, and
both with longitudinal bracing to the ridge; house has at least one chamfered
spine-beam; otherwise altered or remodelled.

History: 1st floor of house said to have been weaving shop.
