Entrance gates to Childwick Bury Stud. Circa 1888. For Sir
John Blundell Maple M.P., founder of the stud. Portland stone
ashlar gate piers in classical style framing ornamental double
wrought iron gates and small pedestrian wrought iron gates to
either side. Each of the two, free standing, square gate piers
has a moulded offset plinth, banded rustication to the shaft
surmounted by a taller block decorated with a square panel
within a moulded frame in relief on each face, and moulded
crowning cornice with a ball finial on the blocking course. In
the double wrought iron gates a closely set, repetative
pattern of linked, scrolled quatrefoils rising into the
pyramidal, scrolled top to the gates.
