Dated 1749 on rain water head. 3 storeys. Upper part red brick with full
height flanking stone pilaster strips. Projecting stone sill courses and
block stone cornices over 1st and 2nd floor. Central stone bay carried up
above brick parapet which is swept up to it and over flanking pilaster strips,
with moulded stone coping. 5 windows to upper floors, sashes, glazing bars
intact in moulded stone surrounds. The 1st floor window in stone bay is round
headed flanked by double Doric pilasters with entablature over, double architrave
to window head with projecting voussoirs broken over.
On ground floor No 29 formerly had a good early C19 shop front now entirely
modernised. No 30 retains its early C19 shop front. Pair of shop windows,
no glazing bars, in moulded frames. Shop door of 1 fielded panel, upper part
glazed with plain rectangular fanlight, framed by delicate panelled pilasters.
Plain frieze and moulded cornice across front. Between the shops is a central
passage entry to yard at rear. Recessed door of 4 flush panels and 2 shaped
fielded panels in tympanum. Flanked by stone Doric pilasters with arch and
keystone over.
Nos 23 to 41 (consec) and the part of the National Westminster Old Bank in
Market Place form a very fine group.
