GV II

Commercial building, c. 1850. Red brick with sandstone ashlar quoins and
dressings; slated roof. 3 storeys, 6 bays. Entablature door surrounds,
with moulded and modillioned cornices, in end bays, the right now holding a
window. Roll-moulded plinth; ground-floor cornice and tall blocking course.
Round-arched, hollow-chamfered ground and first-floor windows with
rusticated alternating jambs and voussoirs, those on first floor with triple
keystone and inner dripmould. Segment-headed second-floor windows in
architraves, with cill string and keys rising to top entablature with
dentilled and modillioned cornice and parapet. Blank rounded left corner
bay entirely of rusticated ashlar. Hipped roof. Left return shows a
projecting quoined chimney with window in base and top niche; plainer
altered section behind. Included for group value with Christ Church.
