GV II

Semi-detached houses. Early C19. Stucco front, brown stock
brick laid to Flemish bond to rear, and part stucco to
left-hand outshoot. Hipped Welsh slated roofs above moulded
cornice, with widely spaced modillions and central stuccoed
multi-flue chimneystack.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 4-bay front, with recessed wings, single
bay on left, with 2-storey linking wing to No.29, 3-storey on
right, with Welsh slated roofs, that on right behind parapet
and cornice linked through with main block. Second floor with
4 recessed 6-pane sash windows; first floor with 4 recessed
12-pane sash windows above band. Ground floor has 4 recessed
15-pane sash windows, with semicircular heads, set within
outer arched recess with projecting impost bands, rising from
stucco plinth.
Recessed wing at left (No.29) has arched entrance and 6-panel
door with semicircular fanlight, to its left is simpler
2-storey link, stuccoed, with 2 sash windows on first floor,
and Welsh slated roof; at right is similar entrance to No.31,
with 3-storey stuccoed wing having blank arches, tall pilaster
strips, and 1 sash window on each floor set within segmental
arched recess.
Rear elevation has 4 sash windows first and second floors, all
recessed under brick arches, with the outer windows set down
at landing level.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
This development of semi-detached housing was part of the
growth of Hertford along North Road towards the County
Hospital during the late 1820s. It was shown as 'North
Crescent' on an 1830 map.
