This item previously listed under Ware Rural Parish.
Gate lodge. C18, extended asymmetrically in mid C19, now with
C20 extension at back. Yellow/salmon brick with buff brick
dressings and hipped slate roofs. C19 half-timbered jettied
extension to south on older ground floor with steep large
slated hipped roof and ornamental red cresting and finial
(similar added to older part). 2 tall plum brick chimneys with
pilaster strips and enlarged heads.
PLAN/EXTERIOR: formerly symmetrical plan with 1-storey hipped
wings flanking a 2-storey semi-octagonal centre. 2-light
small-paned casement windows under gauged brick ogee arched
heads with arched tracery in the window head. Similar brick
quoins. Jettied south side of C19 extension carried on 6 heavy
timber brackets and moulded stone corbels. 3-light casement
window to front.
