Lych gate to Church of Holy Trinity

GV II

Lych gate. c1895. Ashlar, oak framing, wood shingled hipped
roof with gablet, oak finial with copper cross on ball. Stone
piers with recessed perpendicular style panels on outer
flanks. Corbels support oak roof structure, with curved
brackets, tie beams and rafters. Pair of oak gates, panelled,
with wrought-iron strap hinges and diamond mullions in open
upper panels.
The lych gate was erected in memory of Robert Smith of
Goldings, died 21 October 1894.
Forms a group with The Church of Holy Trinity, New Road (qv).
