Formerly known as: No.37 BALDOCK STREET.
House, now shops with offices above. C16, timber-framed,
refaced, altered and extended C19, with C20 alterations. 2
storeys, colourwashed brick. Old tiled roof behind low
parapet, brick chimney with 4 diagonally set shafts. 4 first
floor sash windows with divided glazing and brick dentil
cornice. Ground floor with C20 shop windows, at left (No.37),
and C19 shopfront at right (No.39), with plate glass windows,
moulded glazing mullions, timber stallriser and cill, moulded
consoles and cornice.
INTERIOR: on first floor of No.39 a cambered tie-beam with
mortices for bracing, now missing. Roof has a three bay crown
post structure, with plain posts, fore and aft bracing to
collar purlin. The lack of smoke blackening appears to
indicate that the building was originally unheated.
