Farmhouse. Mid C16 with 1857 alterations and additions for F.L.B. Dykes.
Hammer-dressed red sandstone, roughcast to rear. Steeply-pitched graduated
greenslate roof with coped gables and kneelers; brick chimney stacks.
Originally 2 storeys, 3 bays, now with left bay extension and rear right-angled
extension, forming overall L-shape. Original part has 2-& 3-light chamfered
stone-mullioned windows under hoodmoulds. Rear has 2-storey gabled stair
projection, with side plank door in C19 surround. Extension has 2-light
casement windows. Interior originally had a stone-arched fireplace dated 1567,
which was removed to Dovenby Hall in 1857 and now lost. Home of the Eaglesfield
family in 1675. See Transactions Cumberland & Antiquarian & Archaeological
